Nine year old Tamara has only her mother Franziska, as her father recently died. Her father knew a secret code which would lead the owner to a discovery and thus to immense riches. Because of his knowledge, he was killed by a gang who were interested in obtaining the code. One day Tamara is kidnapped by the gang, who believe that she is in possession of the code. Shortly before his death, it seems her father let her in on the secret. When Franziska calls the police to alert them to her daughter’s kidnap, the officers perceive the matter as if Tamara had simply run away. Yet in reality the police are aware of Tamara's whereabouts and corrupt officers are in league with the kidnappers. This was already apparent when the father died – his death at the hands of the gang was covered up by the police as an accident. A man called Frank comes to Franziska’s aid to help find her daughter. He is a former policeman who was suspended because of his addiction to drink, and who lost his wife and son in an accident. He uses his contacts in the criminal world and to the few remaining honest policemen to help free Tamara. The gang assumes that Tamara was given the secret code shortly before her father’s death. But they have to establish whether the girl really knows the code or not. Whilst the gang is increasingly implicated in government affairs and use Mafia-style methods to achieve their ends, everything turns out well in the end - not least thanks to Frank, the ex-policeman who risks his life to save the small girl.
